Before sending message, read his/her online dating profile. So you know whom you are talking to.
Avoid sexual compliments. The recipient might think that you are very shallow person and care only about looks.
Avoid saying something like: “Looks are not important for me.” Usually it means that you do not look that good.. I did it myself few times. Didn’t have picture on profile, so guys started to talk to me like I was extremely unattractive,, Quick picture fixed it, but I wouldn’t use this line again.
Be personal. Do not sent cut and paste messages to everybody. At least personalize it.
Be short and sweet. You do not need to put your whole life story in the first letter.
Avoid netspeak. Not everybody understand it. More mature people might get annoyed. Do not use netspeak until you really know person.

Unless you are on religion or political dating site, always avoid politics and religion!
